A YEAR of fundraising has seen Cockfield’s festive lights dazzle even more brightly this year.
New motifs and extra tree wraps worth in excess of £3,500 have transformed evenings in the village into a colourful Christmas picture postcard.
Gable ends, businesses and the two churches have all been decorated with motifs, while two trees on the green have been wrapped this year, with an electricity supply installed to a third which will be wrapped in time for next year.

Cash for the new electrical connections was given by Teesdale Action Partnership, while the rest of the funds were raised by members of Cockfield Christmas Lights Committee who organised events including table top sales, a fun day at the recreation ground, a monthly lottery and an old folks’ Christmas party at the primary school.

Committee chairwoman Christine Watters said: “There are very few months in the year that we don’t have something on.
“We have had very good support and we have had positive feedback.
“The intention over the next couple of years is to carry on wrapping more trees.”
Treasurer Tony Carter added: “We add a little bit every year.”
