Millie England raises over £1,000 at Great North Run event

The race may be over but the donations keep coming for brave Millie England.

The Gainford School pupil, who celebrates her fifth birthday next month, took part in the Mini 50 at the Great North Run and has raised more than £1,000 for charity so far.

Millie was born three months premature and has cerebral palsy but that doesn’t stop her living an active and fulfilling life.

Along with her mother and father, Anna and Michael England, she was able to walk the 50m course on the Newcastle Quayside almost two weeks ago.

“She did amazingly,” said proud parent Anna.

“She completed the full 50m, which was absolutely fantastic.

“It was very emotional considering almost five years ago we were told she might never be able to walk.

“It was a bit overwhelming at first due to the crowds but once Millie was in the race she was in her element and high-fiving people in the crowd.

“They were cheering and shouting ‘Go Millie’.”

The family enjoyed the day so much they have already applied to take part in next year’s event.

All money raised will be split between Gainford Primary School and Little SENDsations, a County Durham-based charity that helps children and young people with special needs and disabilities.

The aim is to raise £1,300 in total and more than £1,100 has been contributed so far.

Millie, who started at Gainford Primary earlier this month, took her medal into school to show her fellow pupils.

“The money raised will make a huge difference to Gainford School, they are over the moon,” said Anna.
