Join Ian Botham on a walk for Hope Moor

Cricket legend Ian Botham is taking part in a walk that is aimed at raising awareness of Hope Moor Wind Farm.

Lord Botham, widely regarded as England’s greatest all-rounder, has for several decades lived near the proposed site of a development that would see up to 23, 200m turbines built on moorland.

Now he’s agreed to take part in a Walk For Hope Moor on Sunday, October 11 at 10.30am.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “Join us for a special walk across the beautiful Barningham Moor.

“Experience the scale, tranquillity and beauty of this open moorland that could be changed forever.”

Campaigners are aiming to stop the wind farm being built by developers Fred Olsen Renewables on parts of Barningham and Holgate Moor and East Arkengarthdale Estate.

Hope Moor Wind Farm Action Group has organised Lord Botham’s walk and registration will be on the day from 9.30am at Barningham Village Hall.

Places are limited and tickets, which cost £5 and include a drink and a homemade cake, must be booked in advance through eventbrite.co.uk

The action group this week published a leaflet which outlines its concerns about the wind farm and why they believe it should be denied planning permission.
