CHILDREN, staff and governors at Montalbo Nursery and Primary School, in Barnard Castle, have received recognition for their excellent work in science and maths.
They received the Primary Science Quality Mark, recognised by Ofsted as an effective way to raise the profile of science in primary schools, improve teachers’ confidence and ability to teach science, and have a positive impact on pupils’ performance, their engagement and enjoyment.
The school then received a letter from Damian Hinds, education secreatary, for their high achievement in Key Stage 2 maths, for which 100 per cent of children reached or exceeded the expected standards, putting the school in the top one per cent of primary schools in England.
Montalbo has had an increased focus on STEM activities (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and run after-school clubs.
