PERSONALISED Christmas cards created by pupils from six primary schools are to be handed out to members of Teesdale lunch clubs to help bring a little festive cheer.
Children from Cotherstone, Middleton-in-Teesdale, Evenwood, Ramshaw, Gainford and Montalbo primary schools would normally pop along to lunch clubs and sing carols to members in the lead-up to Christmas. This year due to Covid-19 that will not be possible.
The lunch clubs, organised and run by Teesdale Day Clubs to help tackle social isolation, were suspended in March at the start of the pandemic.
Staff at the charity have continued to keep in contact with members on a weekly basis. During lockdown a number of children began writing letters to members of the lunch clubs and to the older generation who were isolating at home.
Ms Walton added: “It’s just a lovely thing. The letters that the children have been writing have been so well received during lockdown. Many of our members have started to write back and receiving the letters has really made a difference to them.
“Normally at this time of year pupils from some of the dale schools come to sing for our lunch club members. This year that isn’t possible, but the children created personal Christmas cards for each of our members.”
“The cards are wonderful and we are very grateful to all the children for making them.” They will be delivered to lunch members in the coming weeks.
