FEATHERED FRIENDS: Volunteers Michelle McRoberts and Vicky Whitaker were on hand to tell visitors all about the animals from Wetheriggs Animal Rescue TM pic

ANIMAL lovers young and old got the chance to meet some new furry friends at The Hub, in Barnard Castle, last week.

Volunteers from Wetheriggs Animal Rescue, which is based at Thorpe Farm Centre, just off the A66, brought along an array of animals including an Ouessant sheep, the smallest breed of sheep in the world, an African pygmy goat, baby chicks, ducklings and rabbits.

During the two-hour workshop, visitors were given the chance to get up close and hold the animals as well as ask the volunteers questions about the different breeds.

Director of the animal charity Terry Bowes said: “It is great to be here. We need to be here in the middle of the community. We depend on the community so much for everything we do. Working together with The Hub is huge for us.”
