MEDAL WINNERS: Smiles all round from youngsters who received special commemorative medals from Middleton-in-Teesdale and Newbiggin Parish Council to mark the jubilee TM pic

THERE were smiles all round from youngsters at Middleton-in-Teesdale and Newbiggin when they were presented with special commemorative medals as part of the villages’ celebrations to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee.

The parish council organised the event at Middleton’s Sports and Social Club, to hand over the inscribed medals and lanyards to youngsters from the parish aged 17 years and under as a keepsake marking Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne.

About 30 youngsters and their parents from Middleton-in-Teesdale and Newbiggin attended, although a further 68 medals will be handed out to those who could not attend the event. Parish council chairman Cllr Kevin Tallentire said: “It’s a special evening in a very special year and it’s lovely to see so many members of the community here.”
