Hero’ resumes quest to rid streets of litter

TOWN EVENT: George O'Brien is appealing for help with his latest litter pick

A DALE teenager, who was hailed a hero last year for keeping the streets of Barnard Castle clear of rubbish, is at it again.

Fourteen-year-old George O’Brien, from Cambridge Terrace in the town, was presented with a young hero award by Barnard Castle Police in November.

After designing a litter picking campaign, George organised a litter pick with about 25 people turning out to help. Now the passionate youngster has organised another litter pick and is hoping people will turn out for a couple of hours to help on Saturday, January 25.

Durham County Council is providing all of the equipment for the litter pick and anyone who wishes to support George should meet at Barnard Castle Rugby Club on Birch Road at 10am. The litter pick will start and finish at the rugby club.
