Hair today, gone tomorrow – in aid of the NHS

Craig Fortes-Clifton before the chop

A DALE man whose wife only allowed him to shave his head if he did it for charity has raised more than £600 for the NHS.
Craig Fortes-Clifton, a pension specialist from Eggleston, decided to go for the shortest possible haircut when he realised he would not be able to visit his regular barber, Mr Hutton’s Barbers and Bar, of Darlington, when the country went into coronavirus lockdown.
But his wife, Louise, was “dead set against it” and would only agree if he was to do it for a good cause.
Mr Fortes-Clifton said: “A long time ago I had a very short haircut but nothing as extreme as this. The shortest was probably a number two.”
He launched a justgiving.com page, and despite only setting a target of £100, it has surpassed £600
as friends, colleagues and family dug deep into their pockets.
The 40-year-old said: “It was just one of those things. I put it on social media and it snowballed from there. There are people from school that I have not seen for years [who have given money].”
His wife added: “I just think in times like these it just shows how people come together to support each other.”
Ironically, £20 of the cash raised was given by Anthony Hutton, the barber Mr Fortes-Clifton cannot support while the lockdown continues.
All cash raised will go to NHS Charities Together.
People who want to support the cause can visit justgiving.com/fundraising/craig-fortes-clifton1.
