Fresh bid to develop land at former St Peter’s site in Gainford

PLANS: The St Peter's site in Gainford

PLANS have been submitted for 37 homes on the site of a former borstal in Gainford.
Plans by Kebbell Homes and Ruttle Plant Hire to build homes and convert the remaining frontage at St Peter’s, in Gainford, into flats were approved last year but the two companies involved have not been able to reach an agreement on the 57-home scheme. A spokesman for Kebbell Homes said: “The applicant was unable to agree terms with the landowner of part of the site, and as such this application now seeks consent for residential development on land owned by Kebbell Homes only.”
The fresh application by Kebbell Homes is for a mix of two, three and four bedroomed houses. P&HS Architects said the homes would be two storey, each with two parking spaces. Eight would be classed as affordable to rent and two would be offered at an affordable discounted sale. In 2015, Ruttle Plant Hire applied for ten homes relating to the main school building. The planning approval has not been issued because the Section 106 agreement was not completed.
The latest plans mean that the frontage would remain undeveloped.
