A PRIZE raffle to help a Barnard Castle family create memorable events with their eight-year-old daughter who is battling stage four neuroblastoma raised more than £1,200.
On hearing the news of poorly Abigail Ford’s diagnosis, officials at Barnard Castle Workingmen’s Club organised the raffle to support the family.
They were inundated with prizes from local businesses and individuals, all keen to help. The month-long raffle concluded with the draw, which took place on Sunday. In all, £1,237 and was raised.
Tom Howe, club steward, said: “For such a small town we do stick together and come together and it’s an absolutely astonishing amount for the family.
“The response has been brilliant and hopefully the family can make memories and have some money for alternative treatments if they are needed. We started off with three top prizes and ended up with five.”
The winning ticket numbers were orange 5411, green 2481, yellow 3316, yellow 3623 and blue 669.
Mr Howe added: “We just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who bought tickets and donated prizes as it will help us to give Abigail the chance to still live the life that an eight-year-old should be able to live and allows us to help create safer opportunities for her to enjoy her chosen wishes and experiences.”
