A CUPCAKE Day in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society is being held in memory of a Cotherstone businessman who suffered from dementia before his death.
Dennis Hodgson, former managing director of timber building manufacturers WS Hodgson & Co, died on July 12 last year, about two years after being diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia.
Now his daughter Denise is planning to mark the first anniversary of his death by raising cash to help fight the condition.
She said: “I didn’t know there were so many types of dementia. He was such a fit man and it was hard to see him change.
“He was a fun loving person, my dad. He worked hard and played hard, and was always first in and last out.
“He was very popular and very well known. When he went out he always made friends.”
The Cupcake Day in his honour takes place at the company’s premises in Cotherstone on Saturday, July 13, from 10am to 2pm.
All of the cupcakes will be home baked by Ms Hodgson and her friends, and a host of activities have been arranged for the whole family.
Fun for the younger ones there will be a bouncy castle, face-painting and treasure hunt, while the adults stand a chance of winning a brand new garden shed through a raffle.
Other raffle prizes have been provided by Spice Island, Maude’s Coach Tours, Fox and Hounds, Rokeby Inn, the village shop and many more.
Ms Hodgson said: “Please come along and help us raise some dough for this worthy charity which is very close to our hearts.”
