TEESDALE author Kay Wilson, has published her 11th children’s book after finding inspiration during lockdown and has even created a miniature version.
Mrs Wilson, who had her first book published 26 years ago, spent three months of the pandemic shielding at her home in Galgate, Barnard Castle. When visits from her family were allowed, they were restricted to socially distanced affairs. Her grandchildren, Jessica, 7, and Ben, 3, would sit in her yard while she remained in her home on the stairs.
She said: “When they were able to come down, I would read them stories. It wasn’t the same as being able to cuddle them and have them on my knee, but at least we got to see each other.
“I would ask them which story they wanted and Jessica told me to make one up, so I did.
“The story, The Rainbow’s Got His Socks On, was really for Jessica but I asked her if I could do the book so other children at Green Lane Primary School could enjoy it and she said ‘yes’.
“But because of Covid-19 I’ve created miniature versions of the book so each of the children in the reception class will get one for themselves when they go back to school in September.”
The school’s copy of the book, along with the miniature versions, are safely quarantined and will be delivered in the first week of term.
The Rainbow’s Got His Socks On! will be available for sale in stores including McNab’s books priced £2 or £1 for a miniature version.
