CARING brothers Freddie and Archie Swinburne have helped to bring a little Christmas cheer to a dozen homeless people after organising a fundraising effort at their school.
Ingleton Primary School pupils Freddie, 10, and eight-year-old Archie decided they wanted to help after seeing a letter from the charity Crisis.
They wrote a letter to head teacher Janet Whittaker and other members of staff asking if they could hold an assembly to explain the work carried out by Crisis. They also suggested a sponsored slipper day, with schoolmates donating a pound to leave their normal footwear at home.
Freddie explained that for every £28.22 raised, Crisis would be able to find a bed and meals for a homeless person on Christmas Day.
He composed a Powerpoint presentation to show to the school and said the aim was to raise enough money to help four homeless people.
In the event, the brothers’ efforts raised £349 – enough to bring a bit of Christmas comfort to 12 people.
The fundraising effort was helped by the boys’ mum Katie – a cookery teacher at Teesdale School – who baked a box of cakes and the sale of friendship bracelets added more cash to the appeal.
Julie Simpson, business manager at Ingleton Primary School, said they were “absolutely over the moon” with the fundraising effort.
