A CHARITY that has been providing care packages to the most vulnerable in Teesdale during the coronavirus pandemic received a donation of £410 last week thanks to an octogenarian author.
During lockdown Denis Hodgson, who grew up in Barnard Castle but now lives with his wife Hilda in Gloucestershire, published his first book of poetry, Down by the Green Bridge, named after the river crossing in town.
Mr Hodgson self-published the book, copies of which were sold at Connelly’s Toyshop, in Barnard Castle, and has donated all the money raised from the sales to the TCR Hub to go towards funding their care packages after hearing from family still in town of the charity’s good works.
Some 58 books were told and although there was still demand, Mr Hodgson said it would not be possible to print any more at the moment due to costs.
