Anti-litter volunteers hit the streets again

BAG IT AND BIN IT: Volunteers were out in force for the litter pick

AN army of almost 30 volunteers took to the streets of Barnard Castle last week in their on-going war against litter.
The event was part of the Anti-Litter Bug campaign started by 16-year-old George O’ Brien in 2019.
He said the campaign seemed to be having an impact.
The teenager added: “Before we began to pick up regularly there was a lot, now there seems to be less litter.”
On this occasion, 15 full bags of rubbish were collected.
Now the youngster is visiting schools around Teesdale to promote awareness of the problem. Most recently he gave a presentation at Woodland Primary School, where his mum Faye works, followed by a litter pick around the village with the pupils.
Ms O’ Brien said: “It was fantastic. We were proud of the people of Woodland village, there was very little litter.”
