Nailbiting finale sees Peter take Farrer cup

Barnard Castle Bowls Club

THERE was no Monday Evening League due to the inclement weather.

Men’s vets

It was knock-out week and the B team faced Hundens A for the third time in two weeks.

It had been a struggle to get two teams out this week as we had nine players unavailable but those who were available gave it their best shot and despite being in front for a large part of the game they faded away and lost 73-55.

Graham Moore, Alan Butcher and Ronnie Richardson made up the top rink.

The A team were away at Middleton St George B and progressed to the next round winning 80-30.

Top Rink went to John Robinson, Kevin Cross and Dave Walker who won 27-9.

Thursday Evening League

It was AvB week and it proved to be a triumph for the selectors as the A team completely overwhelmed the B with a 5-0 win. Top rink honours went to Graham Moore, Colin Watson and Dennis Richards who won 37-7.

Farrer singles

In the same format as the previous week – a two group round robin – there were uncannily the same number of entries, 26.

Winning through from group one was Peter Rimmington with eight points and a +23 shots difference while Neil Bailey with six points and a shots difference of +19 represented group two.

The final was a close fought affair with Peter just edging it 3-2.

Ladies’ bowls

The first game of the Darlington & District Afternoon League was played on May 2 at Richmond.

The rink of Gillian Harle, Joan Smith and Margaret Sparrow won convincingly 18-12.

Denise Dent, Joan Lee and Rene Armstrong were level pegging at half-way, but Richmond pulled away to win by four shots. Richmond took the long game 41-38 and the match 3-1. The match on May 9 had to be postponed after heavy rain.
