Get set for a summer packed with shows

GREAT DAY OUT: Whether a farmer or visitor

TEESDALE’S top ponies, cattle, sheep and produce will be on display in a summer packed with shows and fairs.

The season kicks off with the Dales Pony Society’s spring show at Streatlam Park, near Barnard Castle, on May 5 which showcases the very best of the rare breed.

The summer show, also at Streatlam Park, takes place on August 4.

Equine lovers can also look forward to Appleby Horse Fair which runs from June 7 to 10.

The famous Aske Horse Trials, at Aske Hall, near Richmond, get underway for two days on July 1 and again on September 22 and 23.

First of the annual sheep shows kicks off at High Force Hotel on May 19, followed closely by Stainmore Sheep Show at Kirkby Stephen on June 2.

Swaledale sheep feature again during Tan Hill Show on May 31.

Those who enjoy watching sheep dogs in action can look forward to the trials across the county border at Alston on June 16.

North Yorkshire Show kicks of the start of the agricultural shows, taking place at Camphill Estate, near Bedale, on June 17, followed by the Great Yorkshire Show, in Harrowgate, over four days from July 10.

Brough Show takes place off the A685 between Brough and Kirkby Stephen on August 16.

Three shows take place on August 25 at St John’s Chapel, Dufton and Leyburn.

Reeth Show follows on bank holiday August 27.

The first of Teesdale’s large agricultural shows, Bowes Show, takes place at Gilmonby on September 8. Stanhope Show, at Unthank Park, also starts on September 8.

Eggleston Show follows on September 15.

The season ends on September 22 with Langdon Beck Show.
