Full steam ahead for return of popular Eggleston Show

GLAD TO BE BACK: Young and old are enthusiastically awaiting the return of Eggleston Show

SCHEDULES for the 145th Eggleston Show are in the post to previous exhibitors and organisers are “full of enthusiasm” after being unable to host the event last year due to the pandemic.
The show committee made the decision earlier in the year to press ahead with organising this year’s event, scheduled to take place at Hayberries Farm, on the outskirts of Mickleton, on Saturday, September 18.
Since then they have been hard at work behind the scenes making sure everything is in place, including a number of Covid-safe measures.
Alan Gent, show secretary, said: “Schedules have just been posted and there is a feeling of excitement. We started planning this when Covid restrictions were on but the support has been great so far and everyone is keen to come.
“The trade marquee is already bursting at the seams with the number of stalls, but we do have space for a selection of other stands on the field as well, though we do have a good few agricultural stands booked in that are outside.”
Categories are similar to previous years, but new for 2021 are nine goats’ classes and there will be four dedicated classes for horse driving, including one for commercial carts.
There are also two new classes for veteran and retired race horses.
Mr Gent added: “We are doing everything we can to ensure everyone feels safe.
“We will be putting a one-way system within the industrial marquee and face masks are optional as it is a matter of people’s choice on how they feel.”
Hand sanitizer stations will be positioned around the show field. Mr Gent said: “Everyone is full of enthusiasm and keen to meet people again and that’s what we need. We are wishing for a great show but what we are always looking for are a few volunteers to help steward on the day.
“It would be good to get more young people involved and even if they shadow an experienced steward it will help. We do have one or two that have already come forward, but you can never have too many volunteers.”
Anyone interested in helping steward at Eggleston Show should contact Mr Gent by emailing [email protected].
Copies of the schedule and entry forms will be available on the show’s website shortly, visit www.egglestonshow.co. uk.
