Children come up with fundraising idea

CHILDREN from St Mary’s Primary School, in Barnard Castle, were treated to a visit by a special guest after they raised £500 for charity.

The children organised their own Rudolph Run at the school in December, after year two pupil, Abigail, a member of the school council, put forward the idea.

All pupils enthusiastically ran lengths on the school’s playing field, some wearing antlers. They managed to raise £534 for Butterwick Hospice Care and have now handed over a cheque to the charity’s mascot, Bea.

Abigail said she got the idea from her mum, Helen, who had seen a similar run advertised. Abigail is now hoping the school will adopt her latest idea of entering a writing competition run by the BBC.

Headteacher Lesley Box said: “I love that it was an idea from one of the children and just shows the personal development is outstanding from our school.”
