Familiar face takes over at Barnard Castle nursery

CARRYING ON THE GOOD WORK: Mel Mitchell is the new manager at Green Lane Nursery and Childcare Centre

A FAMILIAR face has taken over the reins at a busy nursery and childcare centre.

Mel Mitchell has succeeded Christine Bell as manager of Green Lane Nursery and Childcare Centre, in Barnard Castle.

The nursery caters for toddlers aged up to five years, while the childcare side of the operation offers breakfast, after school and holiday clubs for about 150 children.

The facility, which takes youngsters from other schools in the town in addition to Green Lane, is currently at capacity.

Mrs Mitchell lives on the outskirts of town with her farmer husband and their three children aged 16, 14 and six, all of who went through Green Lane Nursery before starting school.

She said she hoped to carry on the good work started by her predecessor.

“Christine retired after working 13 years at the nursery.

“She worked hard to expand and develop the provision we offer and I am delighted to be taking over her role and continuing her good work.

“The staff, children and directors of the nursery would like to wish her the very best in her retirement.”

Mrs Mitchell added: “I have worked here for the past 15 years as a deputy manager and I am committed to developing and continuing the exceptional flexible care and education we offer.

“My goal is to work proactively with the staff and children to provide exciting new opportunities and enhance the provision we offer.”
