Business award is blooming brilliant

IN THE PINK: Heidi Varley and mum Pat Oddy

EVERYTHING came up roses at the Teesdale Business Awards for a venture launched just over a year ago.

Pink’s Flower Farm, at Cotherstone, was launched by Heidi Varley and her mum, Pat Oddy, to help stem the huge number of flowers which are imported to the UK.

After a successful first year, Ms Varley scooped the Entrepreneur of the Year award at last week’s awards.

She said: “Our reaction to being nominated was gratitude that someone would take the time and effort to nominate our fledging business.

“When we found out we’d made the finals we were thrilled to have made it that far. The other two businesses in our category were impressive. On being called as the winner I was in shock and my friend had to give me a nudge to get up.

“Setting up the flower farm has been physically and mentally challenging and a complete career change for me.

“To receive recognition makes me feel proud of what has been achieved and I’m excited for the future of the flower farm.”
