Barnard Castle community centre ‘will break even this year’

EVEN KEEL: The Hub is set to break even this year

A DALE community centre says it is on a firmer financial footing and is likely to break even this year

Rachel Tweddle, chief executive of the TCR Hub in Barnard Castle, told members of Barnard Castle Town Council’s partnership committee that the centre had a range of events planned for the coming year which will help bring money in. Ms Tweddle said: “We are probably going to break even this year and this is a really positive thing to see.

“It is a mix of funding and people coming through the doors.

“We are looking at hosting an Afro Fusion meeting, which would have been the same weekend as the Meet, so we have moved that weekend back as it is more practical. The event will bring around 1,200 people to the area with a huge variety of workshops.”

Ms Tweddle also said she was planning a wellbeing festival featuring many of the alternative therapies and clubs which currently run sessions at The Hub.

She said although funding had been secured for this event, details needed to be confirmed

Committee chairwoman Cllr Judi Sutherland, said: “Congratulations on that. It seems to be thriving.”
