Trio cross the Atlantic to bring French-Canadian music to Cotherstone

PLAYING UP: Folk band Bon Debarras will be performing at Cotherstone Village Hall next Wednesday

A TRIO of multi-instrumentalists all the way from Montreal are set to take to the stage in Cotherstone next week.

Bon Debarras will be bringing their own brand of original French-Canadian-Celtic roots music and foot percussion to the village hall on Wednesday, October 17, with their En Panne de Silence show.

Dominic Desrochers, Jean-François Dumas and Marie-Pierre Lecault play a fusion of Quebecois folk music that draws on various traditions and global influences.

Their inventive and energetic live set features mostly original tunes played on guitar, banjo, fiddle, viola, ukulele, harmonica and Jews harp. They also dazzle audiences with their foot and body percussion and jigging which is a cross between step and tap dancing.

Bon Debarras is the latest in a steady flow of Canadian artists crossing continents to tour with the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme through its partnership with Atlantic Presenters Association which allows rural audiences to enjoy the best of North American talent.

The aim of the scheme is to extend cultural opportunities to some of the most far-flung parts of the north with subsidised shows in the village hall offering a social and intimate alternative to traditional arts venues.

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children.

A family ticket for two adults and two children costs £25.

To book tickets contact promoter Peter Collyer on 01833 651923 or go to www.highlightsnorth.co.uk.
