Testing times ahead as duo preview new shows

NEW SHOWS: Stephen Buchanan and Jan Ravens will treat fans to new material when they perform in Barnard Castle next week

TWO more comedians are preparing to use Teesdale as a test bed for their new material.

TV and radio favourite Jan Ravens will be joined by newcomer Stephen Buchanan at The Witham, Barnard Castle, on Tuesday, May 28.

Both will preview material which will form the basis of their Edinburgh Festival national tour shows.

Jan Ravens is the star of the award winning BBC comedy series, Dead Ringers. Jan’s unique view of our politics and culture makes her one of the country’s favourite impressionists.

Following her record breaking 2017 show, and a sell-out tour with Rory Bremner in 2018, she will road test her new show, Who Do You Think I Am?

Best known for her impressions of Theresa May, Fiona Bruce and Diane Abbott, she weaves her impersonations into an exploration of what it feels like to be a professional impostor with impostor syndrome.

Glasgow’s Stephen Buchanan won the prestigious BBC New Comedy Award 2018 and, in doing so, followed in the footsteps of some of the British comedy scene’s star names.

He is also the reigning Scottish Comedian of the Year. His personality and self-deprecating material make him a hit with the audience and fellow comedians alike. He brings his much anticipated debut hour Baby Dove to Barnard Castle.

Expect sharp storytelling and offbeat observations, as the 27-year-old delves into the reality of living at home with his mum and a refugee.

Promoter Peter Dixon, of Funny Way To Be Comedy, said: “These two shows are destined to be among the hottest tickets at the Edinburgh Festival.

“Jan joins us straight from a highly successful run at the Barbican Theatre in London as the headline performer in a stage version of the popular Dead Ringers show.

“Stephen Buchanan has proved himself to be one of the top rising stars in the UK by being the current holder of both the BBC’s new comedy award and Scottish Comedian of the Year titles. We were thrilled to be able to bring them to Barnard Castle on the same evening.”

Both will present hour-long shows at The Witham. Showtime is 7.30pm and the evening is suitable for ages 14-plus.

Tickets are £14 from the Witham Box Office or www.funnywaytobe.com.
