Pop legends feature in arts venue’s highlights

DO WAH DIDDY: The Manfreds

A PACKED programme of events has been put together by The Witham, in Barnard Castle, to give everyone something to look forward to in the next four months.

Big named stars of the music scene including King Charles’ favourite group, The Three Degrees, have been lined up to perform at the arts venue.

The group, which holds the Guinness record for the longest working group, touring and recording constantly since 1963, are showing no signs of slowing down.

As part of their 60th anniversary tour, the Three Degrees, Valerie Holiday, Freddie Pool and Tabitha King, will take to the stage on Friday, March 8, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £32.50 or £45 for a meet and greet.

Six days later, Sixties pop legends The Manfreds make their way to The Witham for a long overdue appearance on Thursday, March 14, at 7.30pm, following on from their own 60th anniversary tour this year.

Considered one of the finest and most respected bands from the era, Paul Jones, Tom McGuinness, Pete Riley, Mike Gorman, Marcus Cliffe and Simon Currie will be performing many of their hits including Do Wah Diddy Diddy.

But you don’t have to wait until spring to get rocking. The ever-popular Americana, swing, rockability group, The Jive Aces, are sure to sweep away the January any post-Christmas blues when they perform Keeping the Show on the Road on Thursday, January 18, at 7.30pm.

Then Seventies rockers Eddie and The Hot Rods will be on stage on Friday, February 16, at 7.30pm with their Guardians of the Legacy show.

In between there are a host of other events for theatre and film lovers including The Castle Players’ production of the comedy, These Things do Happen, on Saturday, January 27.

The latest What’s On at The Witham programme, covering January to April 2024, is available to pick up from the arts centre now.
