One-time support act is back as the headliner

GREAT STRIDES: Irish folk star Daoiri Farrell will perform at The Witham on Thursday having first played at the venue three years ago

A MULTI-award winning folk musician who earlier this year took his place as part of the hugely popular Transatlantic Sessions collective is to perform in Barnard Castle as part of his UK tour.

Daoiri Farrell heads to The Witham after performing at venues including the Royal Festival Hall, London, and Glasgow’s Royal Concert hall with the Transatlantic Sessions in February.

However, he is no stranger to The Witham, having first performed in Barney three years ago, providing the support for fellow Irish folk singer Cara Dillon.

Since that day in May 2015, he has gone on to release his second album True Born Irishman and win two BBC Folk Awards.

Described as one of the most important Irish singers of his generation, he is a regular at festivals at home and abroad.

He will perform at The Witham on Thursday, May 10, with a 7.30pm showtime.

Sarah Gent, arts marketing manager for The Witham, said: “It’s great to welcome Daoiri back.

“Many people will remember him from Cara Dillon’s sell-out show, since when much has happened for him, including going on to win two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.”

She added: “He has a real soft spot for The Witham and had a great time when he was here previously when he stayed with one of our marvellous volunteers.

“He was keen to come back,” she said.

Tickets for the show are £12 in advance and £14 at the door.
