Jeshika’s charity single inspired by sister Amy

CARING: Singer songwriter Jeshika Bassett is donating all the proceeds of her new single

A KIND-hearted teenage singer-songwriter is donating proceeds from her latest single to help raise money for the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Thirteen-year-old Jeshika Bassett, from Barnard Castle, released her single, Give Love, Feel the Love, earlier this month.

It is the second single the talented teen has released and hopes not only to raise funds for Down’s Syndrome Association, but awareness of those born with the congenital disorder in an effort to stop “cruel comments” ‘.

Jeshika’s younger sister, Amy, 8, was born with Down’s, and she says after hearing cruel comments at school she decided to write the song.

She said: “It just really gets to me some of the comments people say. I know it’s because they don’t understand, but it makes me really mad.

“Amy is no different to me apart from she has an extra chromosome. She’s really intelligent and probably too trusting of people.”

Fiona Bassett, Jeshika’s mother, said she is “immensely proud” of both of her daughters, but is pleased Jeshika is raising awareness for the charity.

Mrs Bassett said: “You don’t normally hear a lot about the Down’s Syndrome Association, but they were so helpful when Amy was first born, answering questions and giving advice on what to expect.

“The only difference with Amy is learning takes her a little longer and her muscle tone is quite soft. But everyday Amy is surprising us and proving the experts wrong.”

Give Love, Feel the Love is released under Jeshika’s stage name – Jeshika Jaynes and she performed it live at the Forum in Darlington on Wednesday, December, 5.

It is available on online for download on all major platforms including Amazon and Apple with all proceeds going to the Down’s Syndrome Association.
