Imaginary encounter inspires singer songwriter Sam’s new single

NEW SINGLE: Sam Nix has released A Girl I Met on the Tube Last Week on all streaming platforms

FALLING in love after a chance encounter on a tube train was the inspiration behind Romaldkirk-based singer songwriter Sam Nix’s new single.
But the 28-year-old singer songwriter, who has been kept busy since the release of his debut EP in spring, is quick to point out, A Girl I Met on the Tube Last Week, which is available on all digital streaming platforms, was based on an idea, not an actual encounter.
He said: “I got the idea for the song when I was on the tube in London. It was something that could happen, not that it did.
“I know we’ve all seen the Richard Curtis films with people meeting and I just thought it was a good idea and ran with it.”
The single, recorded in August at the Hub, in Barnard Castle, was another chance to work alongside Chris “Whizz” West, who he collaborated with on his EP.
He added: “I really enjoyed working on the single. With streaming you find artists are releasing them every three months or so and it’s a great way to be able to experiment with things.
“There are a lot more electronic elements to Girl on a Tube and it’s a step forward from the EP. Anyone listening to my work will be able to see the progression.”
In the last two years Sam has gained a multitude of experience, crafting his unique style to set him apart from others. He continues to perform in venues from Newcastle to Manchester including the supporting the famous cult singer songwriter John Otway and rock band Eddie and the Hotrods.
He said: “Hopefully I’m going to be billed on the HMV living local gig in Newcastle on October 15,” he said. “I have been doing gigs all over the country, but I’m hoping to get back into the studio some time at the end of the year to record another song.”
In the meantime, he will be performing A Girl I Met on the Tube Last Week, along with his other work, when he performs at the Barrel House, in Kendal, on October 16, and Mr Ants Bar, in Penrith, on October 21.
