THRILLER TIME: Dance tutor Melanie Edmenson who will lead Halloween workshops based on Michael Jackson's smash hit

YOUNGSTERS are in for a thrilling time when they sign up for special Halloween dance workshops.
Dance tutor Melanie Edmenson is basing the workshops on Michael Jackson’s Thriller – a ground-breaking piece of choreography which accompanied his worldwide hit from the mid-1980s.
Those taking part in the workshops, at The Hub, on Saturday, October 31, are being encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes which they can dance in.
Ms Edmenson said that although the youngsters may only have heard about Michael Jackson from their parents, Thriller remained an iconic piece of performance.
“All the children love it,” she said.
The workshops are open to those aged eight and older, and no dance experience is necessary.
Ms Edmenson said children would work in groups on pieces of choreography before coming together for a joint final performance.
“Michael Jackson was such an icon with his dancing. Everyone wants to do the moonwalk,” said Ms Edmenson.
“Although there may be some who have danced before, I don’t want anyone to feel they can’t do it, so I will keep it pretty simple,” she added.
The workshops are being held in The Hub’s drama room, which will allow parents to watch the dance from outside through the large bifold doors.
Two workshops are planned for the day – and such has been their popularity, the morning event, from 10am to noon, has already sold out.
However, spaces are available in the afternoon workshop, which takes place from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
It costs £8 to take part and money raised from the workshops will go towards The Hub’s care packages scheme.
