Comedians offer sneak peak of Edinburgh Festival shows

GAME FOR A LAUGH: Spencer Jones

THE first of four shows at which comedians will preview their shows for the Edinburgh Festival takes place this weekend.

On Saturday, July 6, Spencer Jones, seen regularly on BBC2’s Upstart Crow, and Sarah Keyworth, who has won several awards during the last year will present one hour shows.

Spencer Jones has been nominated for both the Edinburgh Comedy Award and a Bafta.

Well know for his regular appearances as William Kempe in BBC2’s Upstart Crow, he was co-creator and co-star of the Bafta-nominated CBBC comedy Big Babies.

He recently wrote and starred in the BBC comedy short, The Mind of Herbert Clunkerdunk, which has received rave reviews, and has been commissioned for a full series.

His 2017 show The Audition was nominated for best show at the Edinburgh Comedy Award and received glowing reviews.

Sarah Keyworth recently won the Best Newcomer Chortle award and was last year nominated for the Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Festival.

Her material is a mix of anecdotal storytelling about her Midlands upbringing, made surreal with the occasional addition of a silly observation.

Last year she won the Pleasance Theatre Best Newcomer award. Her show was also a Herald Angel award winner.

The brand-new hour of comedy is about the little things, the smallest details, the fixed and distinct aspects that make up what we definitively are, how we expressly think and who we unambiguously love.

Promoter Peter Dixon said: “We have two of the most exciting award winning performers that will be at the Edinburgh Festival.

“Their tickets are certain to be among the most sought after as their new shows are both highly anticipated among comedy fans. To have them both on the same bill is a real treat.”

Tickets for The Witham are £12 each and are available from funnywaytobe.com or the Witham Box Office on 01833 631107.
