Comedian Richard reflects on last ten years as he brings new show to Barnard Castle

HALF CENTURY: Richard Herring is heading to The Witham

LAST year, comedian Richard Herring celebrated his 50th birthday and decided to compare life now to that ten years ago when he was 40, single and had no kids.

The resulting show is currently on a UK tour of theatres and art centres and comes to The Witham, in Barnard Castle, on Saturday, May 19.

It charts how he has gone from irresponsible singleton fighting his way through a mid-life crisis to married father who is half way to the telegram from the Queen.

Richard Herring has enjoyed phenomenal success as a writer and performer and is an innovator in the world of podcasts.

His Leicester Square Theatre podcasts, which see him interview other comedians in front of a live audience for free release online both as videos and podcasts regularly attract up to 200,000 listeners per episode.

He has won three Chortle Internet Comedy Awards and is the only non-BBC show to ever pick up a Sony Best Comedy accolade.

His blog Warming Up has gained a cult following since he started it in November 2002 and he has written an entry for every single day since it began, making it what is believed to be the second longest consecutive daily blog in the world.

A regular on shows such as Pointless – Celebrities, Have I Got News For You and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, he also wrote and performed two series of Richard Herring’s Objective for BBC Radio 4.

Promoter Peter Dixon, from Funny Way To Be Comedy, said: “Richard first performed for us last year with his ‘Best Of…’ Show, and it was a massive success. This new show is loosely a follow up the show he produced when he was 40 years old.

“It’s an ideal show for anyone who is in their 50s, was once 50 or is planning on becoming 50 – or even knows a 50 year old.”

Tickets are available online from funnywaytobe.com and The Witham Box Office on 01833 631107, priced £17.50. Age restriction: 14+.
