Barney Jam is back with 12 acts lined up for festival

DYNAMIC DUO: Catch Steam Town at the Golden Lion as part of the Barney Jam

THE Barney Jam is back for its third outing.

After taking a break last year, the event’s small team of organisers has put together a day of gigs featuring 12 acts at five venues in Barnard Castle town centre.

The event takes place on Saturday, September 7, and is run in support of the Teesdale branch of Cancer Research UK.

The day kicks off at noon with Catalina Rock Club taking to the stage in the Commercial Hotel, Galgate, and concludes at the Blue Bell with Oily Bum Print at 10pm.

Other venues staging shows are the Three Horse Shoes, the Old Well and the Golden Lion.

Michelle Grancourt, a member of the Barney Jam’s committee, said the event aimed to celebrate the town’s love of live music.

“All artists perform for free, which is amazing given the time they put into rehearsing, the money they spend on equipment and especially as they could be doing a paid gig elsewhere.

“We’ve tried to get a wide range of musical styles throughout the day playing a mix of original and covered songs.”

The organisers have also tried to ensure performances don’t overlap so those attending can get from one to another in time.

For visitors to the town, each venue has an official Barney Jam banner and the event is being supported by Newcastle-based community radio station Nova as well as Bishop FM.

There will be a raffle held on the day and people will be able to purchase tickets from Cancer Research UK fundraisers who will be at all the venues.

Admission to all performances is free and full details of the line-up and timings are available on the Barney Jam Facebook page.
