Banging the drum for return of popular band

BACK PERFORMING: The Vintage Pipes and Drums band warm up ahead of their first performance in two years

A PIPE and drums band from the dale has given its first performance in almost two years as they emerge from the coronavirus pandemic.
It was also the first time in two years that residents at Bowes Lyons House, in Barnard Castle, enjoyed live entertainment when the Vintage Pipes and Drums visited. The band, which has an average age of 80 with a combined age of 631, returned to practice at Winston Village Hall earlier this year.
Barry Waldron, from the band, said: “It is great to be back together again and performing. We are also available to be booked for gatherings and events.”
The band of eight includes five pipers, two snare drummers and a bass drummer.
At 93, Tom Weightman is its oldest member.
Anyone who would like to book a performance by the Vintage Pipes and Drums can contact Mr Waldron on 01833 660562.
