Artist network’s first exhibition since Covid-19

ART ON SHOW: Teesdale Art Net are excited about their first collective exhibition in two years at The Witham

A NETWORK of artists and sculptors are excited their artwork will once again be on show during a month-long Teesdale Art Net exhibition (TAN) at The Witham, in Barnard Castle
TAN 2021 will see work from ten Teesdale artists and sculptors on display at the venue from Wednesday, August 4, to Sunday, August 29, and final preparations for the exhibition are underway.
The group was unable to exhibit last year due to Covid restrictions but have remained in contact with each other using video technology and regular phone calls.
Sara Cox, chairwoman of TAN, said: “It’s very exciting to pull something together that has been very challenging. We have done Zoom meetings and we have kept in touch with each other throughout lockdown, but it’s nice to be able to share our work again.
“People need to know artists are still here and we need to make sure the exhibition is a solid reminder of that.”
Those sentiments were shared by sculptor Judith Walker. She said: “It is the sheer joy that the things you are making are going to be held, touched, used and enjoyed again.”
The exhibition will see artwork on display by sculptors Ms Cox and Stef Ottevanger, potters Judy Caplin and Ms Walker, textile artists Ann Gill and Ingried Swan and artists Simon Pell, Anne Mason and Mitsi Kral.
And as in previous years some of the artists will also be opening their studios and homes, inviting the public to meet the maker, see what they do, how they do it and find out what their inspiration is.
Leaflets detailing the exhibition and the open studio dates and information are available online at www.tees
daleartnet.org.uk and from various locations including The Witham and Teesdale Mercury shop.
The exhibition opens at 10am on Wednesday, August 4. The first open studios on Saturday and Sunday, August 7 and 8, will see artists Jill Campbell, from Lynesack, and Anne Mason, from Eggleston, welcoming visitors.
