Art trail spans the generations… and hopefully the Tees

ART TEACHER: Teresa Keeling at home in Thorngate - she is co-ordinating the efforts

DOZENS of people across the generations are helping to create a unique community artwork in Barnard Castle.
About 40 people have placed brightly painted pebbles along Thorngate, with inspirational messages and tributes to the NHS.
It began during the VE Day anniversary celebrations when art teacher Teresa Keeling launched a competition from her home judged by businessman Zak Ahmed, owner of Babul’s curryhouse. More pebbles have been added and it is hoped the line of stones will stretch across Thorngate bridge to The Lendings.
Ms Keeling, who currently in isolation, has turned her property into an art house, leaving projects for people to take home and complete in exchange for donations to charity.
She said: “During the VE Day weekend, the neighbours in the street decided to go for it and now we are trying to get to the Green Bridge and possibly across. Everyone who sees the pebbles slows down now to look at them. I think we have about 40 people who have taken part, maybe more, aged from two to 80. It’s lovely – it’s a little community exhibition.”
By last week, the pebbles stretched about 20 yards along Thorngate.
Ms Keeling, who has raised more than £600 for the charity Refuge through donations to her “art house” , plans to ask people who have put down pebbles if she can sell them afterwards for the good
cause.
