Stray dog vet Janey Lowes to appear on Ben Fogle’s Channel 5 programme

CANINE HELP: Vet and former Barnard Castle School pupil Janey Lowes with television celebrity Ben Fogle

A TEESDALE vet from Barnard Castle who started a charity to care for stray dogs in Sri Lanka is to appear on a Channel 5 documentary with celebrity Ben Fogle.

Janey Lowes, who founded the WECare Worldwide charity, was last year recognised during the national Animal Hero Awards as Vet of the Year.

She started her charity after seeing firsthand the plight of stray animals while on a holiday on the south Asian island.

Her work will now feature on Ben Fogle’s New Lives In The Wild series in an episode that will be aired on Tuesday, May 7, at 9pm

A spokesperson for the charity said: “Last November Ben Fogle and a lovely TV crew flew out to follow Janey around and film snapshots of her life in Sri Lanka. It’ll hopefully give you all more of an insight into what we do over here, and why we’re needed.”
