All systems go for Streatlam Show weekend

FULL STEAM AHEAD: Adam and Charlotte Hardy

MORE than 450 vehicles will be on display near Barnard Castle this weekend for the first ever Streatlam Show.

Organisers, husband and wife team, Adam and Charlotte Hardy, from Copley, say they are “overwhelmed” by the response from exhibitors for their first show.

Mr Hardy said: “It’s been a great response, really positive. Whereas we originally estimated we would have 250 vehicles it is going to be about 450 now. It’s a really good turn out from exhibitors.”

Although steam and vintage fairs have been held at Streatlam Farm for many years, it is the first time the couple, who have been enthusiastic participants of steam and vintage fairs, have undertaken to organise the two-day event.

He added: “We’re just hoping the weather stays fine for us, the forecast is looking good.

“Charlotte has done most of the work, all the paperwork and stuff and everything has gone to plan. We already have people mentioning about next year, but we’ll see how this year goes.”

Among the 14 full sized steam engines that will be on display is the century old Aveling and Porter showman’s engine, owned by Mrs Hardy’s parents Ann and Peter Bowron, from Middleton-in-Teesdale, which made its way to the showground on Monday.

There will also be 30 miniature steam engines to look at, about 65 tractors, 40 vintage trucks as well as about the same number of modern vehicles and a selection of motorbikes, station engines and a selection of vintage caravans.

In addition to the impressive display of everything automotive there will be an auto jumble, craft exhibition marquee, outside stalls and a number of family-friendly activities including a vintage fun fair, circus trickery and donkey rides

Streatlam Show is on Saturday, August 17, and Sunday August 18. Gates open at 10am. Tickets cost £12 for adults, Children aged nine to 16 years are £6 and it’s free entry for children under eight.
