Golfers do their bit for town charity

THANK YOU: Colin Watson

GOLFERS have teed off to lend a helping hand to a vital Teesdale charity.
The Clique, which gives out cash to local good causes, has been given £1,100 raised by members of Barnard Castle Golf Club during two captain’s charity matches.
Men’s captain Colin MacLeod said: “What impresses me is that the money raised and donated by the Clique all goes to local good causes. They support community projects that otherwise may not survive. We think of ourselves as a community golf club so us helping them ties in nicely.”
Matthew Croom, chairman of The Clique, said: “It’s really appreciated because it has been hard for us as a charity this year because of lockdown. The Clique has not been able to go out and do the fundraising we normally would do. But donations like this mean that when we have our presentation night on November 27 we will still be able to give to the good causes we usually do.”
In return, The Clique presented a gold award to the club in recognition of its support over the years.
Mr MacLeod reported how the golf club has seen a rise in membership by about 50 per cent since the sport was one of the first to resume after lockdown. He said numbers were being maintained this summer.
