HUNDREDS of young athletes made sporting memories as they took to the hockey and rugby pitches for a two-day festival of sport. About 350 children from across the country took part in U10 and U12 rugby and hockey matches at Barnard Castle School amid sunshine and heavy showers.
Competing in the Seddon and Ewart Cups, Clegg Festival and Tait 10s competitions, the games were officiated by students who had taken their official referee’s qualifications.
Barnard Castle School headmaster Tony Jackson said: “I was delighted to welcome so many schools to the festival which proved once again to be a very special occasion.
“Established more than 15 years ago, the annual event has grown over time and we greeted old friends and made new ones among the teams who joined us for the first time.
The festival was keenly contested and highlighted everything that is wonderful about team sport.”
