Young stars’ efforts lauded at Barnard Castle CC junior presentation

ALL SMILES: The award winners at Barnard Castle CC's junior presentation evening

PLAYERS from the junior section of Barnard Castle Cricket Club were applauded for their efforts during the 2017 season.

The U11, U13 and U15 teams were represented at the presentation evening conducted by coaching co-ordinator John Ashworth in the club function room.

Trophies were handed out by club veterans Bernard Lee, a leading member of the outstanding team of the 1960s and 1970s, and his wife Joan; Brian Sparrow, a stalwart behind the scenes for decades whose son David is now club chairman, and his wife Margaret; and Rod Hesp, long serving swing bowler, and his wife Wendy, who together are probably the club’s most devoted spectators.

Mr Ashworth welcomed players and parents by saying that Wednesday night training sessions were one of the most important parts of club life. They would continue again this summer and in addition the club is taking part in the ECB’s All Stars Cricket initiative for children aged five to eight.

Details of the sessions will be announced shortly but they will be held on Monday nights starting in May.
