West prepare for new Northern League campaign

NEW SIGNING: Liam Potter in action for West in last week's pre-season friendly against Spennymoor

WEST Auckland Town FC are continuing to build for the new season.
The club has so far unveiled three new signings – with the likelihood of more to follow before the Northern League season kicks off on Saturday, July 31, with a home game against Newcastle Benfield.
Defender Liam Potter has made the short move from neighbours Bishop Auckland. He has signed for the season with the option of extending his stay, however, he has been for trials with League 2 side Port Vale, which shows his potential.
Another to sign for the coming season with an option for 2022/23 is keeper Ross Coombe.
The former South Shields and Consett shot stopper will partner Decklan Greenwood between the sticks.
Jordan Lavery has also agreed terms with West. The 26-year-old left sided player, whose former clubs are Shildon, Consett and Sunderland RCA, is a direct replacement for Michael Hoganson.
There have also been some changes to manager Gary Forrest’s coaching line-up.
Paul Connor and Brian Atkinson have both left West, with Lewis Dodds and Evan Horwood stepping up as player-coaches. Craig Turns continues as goalkeeping coach.
The club’s programme of pre-season friendlies continues with trips to Marske United today, Saturday, July 17, and Esh Winning on Tuesday, July 20. West will then host Hebburn Town on Saturday, July 24, for the JR Cleator Cup (32pm kick-off).
Meanwhile, season ticket prices have been frozen once again at £60 for adults and £40 concessions, which offer admission to all 19 home league matches.
