Volunteers out in force to prepare ground for new cricket season

PREPARED: Steve Steen and Dave Stanwix were putting sight screens back together

VOLUNTEERS were out in force at Barnard Castle Cricket Club this weekend helping to get the Vere Road ground in tip top shape for the start of the new season.

Their efforts are part of NatWest CricketForce, a national initiative backed by the ECB to encourage clubs to prepare grounds and facilities for when the first ball is bowled.

At Barney, activities included everything from power spraying the viewing area outside the clubhouse and reconstructing sight screens to sprucing up the garden areas.
