TEENAGERS came to the fore in last week’s competitions, with 15-year-old Nicky Lee-Shield leading the way, while Olivia Bainbridge won two ladies’ events.
Nicky won the first 36-hole event of the season, the Artillery Cup, with rounds of 74 and 75 for a three over par total of 149.
The five-handicapper began with a birdie in finishing four clear of the field in the first round, then birdied the second and ninth in round two prior to dropping three strokes on the back nine.
His nett 139 left him two ahead of 22-handicapper Anthony Barker, whose nett 68 was the best score of the afternoon.
He struggled to the turn in 51, but covered the back nine in 39 to finish one ahead of Paul Dale, who plays off 13.
Dale’s nett total of 146 gave him third place, one ahead of Andy Steel and George Wearmouth.
Olivia’s handicap was cut from 14 to 12 after her second win of the week in the Helmer Trophy.
In a field of 30, her nett 67 left her six ahead of fellow teenager Cara Weddell, who plays off nine.
Olivia also won the Ladies’ Anniversary Vase with a nett 71, ahead of Pauline Connelly (80-7-73). Vicky Oliver was third in both events.
Other results
