Success for young Teesdale sailors at Ullswater

WELL DONE: Max Yeowart with brother Rory and Finn Goodman celebrate their success at Ullswater

Sailing

FOLLOWING the successful F3 courses which have been run by Teesdale Sailing and Watersports Club, six of the club’s new youngsters – Finn Goodman, Oliver Waggett, Poppy Ridgway, Toby Waggett, Max Yeowart and Rory Yeowart – entered the RYA British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships at Ullswater Sailing Club last weekend.

Max entered the Regatta Fleet Optimist competition using the club’s Racing Optimist, whilst the others entered the OnBoard Fun Fleet.

After a number of races over the course of the weekend and despite the mixed wind conditions, Max came second overall in the class and first out of all the boys.

A fantastic result for Max in his first regatta fleet in the Optimist.

The OnBoard Fun Fleet introduced the other youngsters to RYA sailing events, with on-shore activities and also sailing other boats at a different location. On the Sunday, Finn and Rory in one of the events held came first in a Laser Pico relay race.

Following this event and the recent entry into the Southport 24-hour race, the club looks forward to this group and the other new youngsters entering more events in the future.
