RABY Castle Cricket Club’s Steve Caygill met fellow top coaches at a special awards event held at the Incora County Ground, home of Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
Mr Caygill, County Durham’s coach of the year, was invited to attend the ceremony along with the other county coach winners from around the country.
The annual event, organised by the ECB coach development team is held to recognise the contributions and efforts of cricket coaches throughout the game, and to reward those coaches who have made a outstanding contributions to cricket coaching and to the development of coaches.
During the three-course meal, Steve was presented with his award by former England Ladies cricket captain and England Women’s hockey head coach Dr Jane Powell.
Ms Powell is a one of England’s leading female coaches.
She is a level 4 coach at both cricket and hockey, making her probably the most highly qualified coach in the country.
In presenting Mr Caygill with his award she said: “Steve has shown unbelievable commitment to Raby Castle Cricket Club where he is secretary and junior head coach.
“As well as being a major fundraiser for the club, he set up their All Stars and Dynamos programmes.
“He coaches, umpires and scores for the junior teams and he even finds the time sweep out and clean the club’s pavilion.”
Mr Caygill thanked everyone at Derbyshire CCC and the ECB coach development team for organising such a brilliant event.
He said, “It was amazing to share the room with so many talented coaches and it was incredibly inspiring to listen to Dr Powell talk about her experiences in the game of cricket.”
