Stanwix stars in Barningham CC fundraiser

GOOD CAUSE: Rob Stanwix

A FUNDRAISING single wicket competition at Barningham CC raised almost £300 for club funds.

Some 16 players took part in a straight knockout format which saw skipper Dan Swires play all-rounder Rob Stanwix in the final. A hard hitting innings of 70 saw Stanwix claim victory, after which a barbecue and raffle were held. He received the trophy from club chairman Bill Metcalf.

The money raised, together with that from an earlier quiz night at the Smallways Inn, has helped to pay for improvements to the pavilion which were carried out in the off season.

The club also received the support of a number of firms and individuals with the work, which was carried out to the changing rooms and tea area, including: S&A; Len Porter Fencing; Andrew Calvert, North Yorkshire Timber and Within Reach; JT Atkinson; Mac Plant, Richmond; Sue and Geoff Wilkinson and Phil and Ange Thompson.

Help and support was also received from the Teasdale Decor and Carpet Centre, in Barnard Castle. The club plans further fundraising events later in the year.
