RABY Castle U13s’ first match of the season ended in a comfortable win against Evenwood in the RS Pratt Trophy.

Evenwood won the toss and asked Raby to bat first. Bertie Morris (26) and Beth Poole (6) put on 51 for the first wicket. Finlay Kirkup and Joe Brookes both retired on 31 not out to take the score past 150 runs.

Ralph Hoskyns-Abrahall scored 26 not out and runs from William Poole (24) took Raby to a score of 193 for 3 of their 20 overs. Joseph Brunton bowled well with no luck, and the three wickets were shared by Niall Coatsworth (1-19) Jaydon Hargrave (1-20) and Ben Staermose-Johnson (1-29).

In reply the young Evenwood side found runs hard to come by and their innings closed on 23, with the wickets shared by the bowlers. Joe Brookes was Raby man-of-the-match for his batting and fielding and William Poole took the fielding award.

The match against Evenwood was in the RS Pratt Trophy Group 1

On Sunday Raby’s U12 team travelled to Durham to play in the County Cup semi final – a match carried over from last season.

Played in the grounds of Durham School, Durham won the toss and asked Raby to bat first. Raby scored 61-9 off their 20 overs against some very good bowling mainly thanks to William Poole (31no) and captain Bertie Morris’s (23). In reply an excellent Durham City side reached the total for the loss of just one wicket. The Raby wicket taker was Harry Tellegen.
