New golf pro Peter reveals plans for junior academy

NEW ROLE: Peter Hartley is returning to Barnard Castle Golf Club as head professional and plans to launch a junior academy

Peter Hartley will be returning to Barnard Castle Golf Club as newly appointed Head Professional from January to fill the position that has been vacant since former Professional Martyn Stubbings left in 2022.

Peter was a junior player at the club before moving into the professional coaching ranks which has taken him to both Thirsk and Crook golf clubs.

“I’m really excited to be taking over, I’m hugely looking forward to it, it’s been three years since I was last here and I feel I’ve developed in my professional and personal life in that time” he said.

“I’m looking forward to catching up with members, I’ve kept in touch with quite a few as I live in the town still, but it’ll be great to see them out on the course.”

Peter began at the club in 2008 as a junior player and took to the sport almost immediately.

“I started off as a 56 handicapper like most did and worked my way down till I was able to turn pro, which for a very long time had been my dream.”

“I had a weekend job at the club for a couple years around 2010 which gave me a real taste for it.”

“That then graduated to doing an apprenticeship here before turning pro properly in 2016.”

Whilst working at both Thirsk and Crook, Peter implemented a successful coaching platform that he will be bringing to Barney.

“I will 100 per cent be launching the junior academy here. We’ve got trial sessions starting in January and they’ll be running weekly throughout the season.”

“I have all the facilities to use the indoor Trackman, which is an essential tool for coaching, so as soon as the fine details are sorted that will be up and running.”

Peter finished by saying “I’d like to put a huge thanks out to the club for giving me the opportunity to return. I can’t wait to get started.”
