TIME TO CELEBRATE: Raby Castle U13 Captain William Poole lifts the trophy after Barney defeated Ushaw Moor

Raby Castle Juniors
Ushaw Moor 81-3
Raby Castle U13 82-1

RABY’s U13s travelled to Ushaw Moor to play their final match of the league season.
Raby went into the match just one point ahead of Ushaw Moor so it was a real winner takes all game of cricket.
Raby won the toss and asked Ushaw Moor to bat first.
All the Raby bowlers were excellent and after the first 11 overs, Ushaw Moor had only scored 29 for the loss of two wickets.
Then, thanks to the efforts of Aiden Wilkes (26), and Josh Southeran (18 not out), Ushaw Moor recovered to reach 81 for 3 at the end of their 20 overs
The Raby wicket takers were Jack Glenton (1-5) and Louis Morris (1-6).
In reply, Raby lost opening batsmen Bertie Morris with the score on 13.
Then Jack Glenton (29 not out) and William Poole (28 not out) batted sensibly and Raby comfortably reached their target of 82 in the 15th over.
The U13s won the match by nine wickets and with it the South West Durham divisional championship.
Man-of-the-match was Jack Glenton for his batting and bowling and the fielding award went to bowler Louis Morris.
Captain William Poole received the trophy on behalf of the team from league fixture secretary Alan Stewart, who praised both teams for the standard of play shown not only on the night but throughout the season.
Raby meet Ushaw Moor in the final of the RS Pratt Trophy at Hunwick on Sunday, September 4, hoping to achieve a league and cup double.

U15 tournament
LAST week, Barnard Castle School and Raby Castle Cricket Club co-hosted a five- day under 15 cricket festival featuring county and international sides.
The weather was fantastic for cricket and if anything a little too hot at times for the young players and the hundreds of spectators they brought with them.
The teams involved were Durham (who included Barney’s Max Martin), Cleveland Schools, Middlesex Schools, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Kent and the Dutch and Irish national sides.
The teams were split into two groups who played each other once, then the teams from each group played against teams from the other group to determine the final finishing positions.
The final was between Ireland and Kent, with Ireland deservedly emerging as winners.
All the teams got to play a match at Raby Castle CC and club secretary Steve Caygill said: “The standard of cricket on display was excellent, and I’m sure I’ve seen a number of young lads who are going to make a name for themselves in the first class game.
“Everyone who came to Raby was blown away with the amazing setting and the quality of our wicket and outfield. We’ve even had several requests from teams to come back and play matches at Raby again.”
There is another five-day tournament starting on August 22, this time for under 14s.
The teams playing in the under 14's tournament are Cleveland Schools (North and South), Northumberland, Cumbria, Suffolk, Cambridge- shire, Middlesex Schools and the Netherlands.
All matches start at 10.30am so pop along to the school or Raby to watch some of the best young cricketers in the country playing against each other.
